Housing Commission

Authority: "To purchase, acquire, construct, maintain, operate, improve, extend and repair housing facilities; to eliminate housing conditions which are detrimental to the public peace, health, safety, morals or welfare; to issue notes and revenue bonds; to regulate issuance, sale, retirement and refunding of such notes and bonds; to regulate the rentals of such projects and the use of the revenues of the projects; to prescribe the manner of selecting tenants for such projects, etc."

All appointments are 5-year terms expiring 11/30. This commission consists of 5 members appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Commission. It is a HUD requirement that the City attempt to appoint at least one resident of a City housing complex.  

One member of the commission shall be a tenant of public or subsidized housing as provided in this subsection. If, on the effective date of the amendatory act that added section 11a, a commission is managing an occupied project and has no tenant member, a tenant member shall be appointed for the 1 of the next 3 vacancies after that effective date, or within 2 years after the effective date, whichever comes first.
