Traverse City residents are invited to participate in the process of government by serving on one of the city's citizen boards and committees. Through this service, civic-minded citizens can become involved in their local government. The city, in turn, benefits from the knowledge, experience and expertise of our citizens.
Traverse City Light and Power Board
This board typically meets twice a month and has exclusive jurisdiction, control and management of the Light and Power Department and all its operations and facilities. Unless specifically allocated to the City Commission or to a City official, the Board has all of the powers and duties possessed by the City to construct, acquire, expand and operate the Light and Power system.
Board of Zoning Appeals
The purpose of the Board of Zoning Appeals is to hear and decide on appeals brought to the Building Official, Zoning Administrator, etc. and to interpret provisions of the Zoning Code. The Board’s regular meeting date is the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm.
Board of Tax Review
The purpose of the Board of Tax Review is to examine, review, and correct the assessment roll. Members of this board have minimal commitment, only meeting periodically throughout the year. This person shall be a City resident.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for all boards and commissions and are kept on file for a period of one year; applicants must not be in default to the City.
