Hickory Hills Recreational Area Closed for Improvements
Hickory Hills Ski & Recreational Area Temporary Closure
to kick off Improvements to Hickory Hills
3/26/2018 – 4/20/2018
TRAVERSE CITY - Improvements at Hickory Hills have begun! The City of Traverse City in cooperation with our non-profit partner, Preserve Hickory, is excited to announce that improvements to Hickory Hills will soon be underway. Years of collaborative planning, design and fund raising are culminating in approximately four million dollars worth of substantial upgrades to the park. The improvements will significantly expand year-round public recreational opportunities and accessibility. Improvements include a new lodge, maintenance facility, parking, trails, disc golf and a new entrance.
Initial site work, including tree removal, will begin on March 26, 2018 and pending weather related delays is planned to be completed by approximately April 20, 2018. Select trees will be removed for safety of those visiting Hickory and to open terrain for alpine and freestyle skiing and to improve Nordic ski and all-purpose recreational trails and a sledding hill.
To ensure safety and to expedite improvements, Hickory will be closed to the public until the work is complete, approximately April 20, 2018. Signs and barricades will be placed to define and secure work areas. Additional temporary park closures during upcoming summer months are expected. Park closure dates will be communicated through local media and posted online at http://www.traversecitymi.gov/
Implementing the improvements at Hickory Hills at times may generate elevated dust and noise levels. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as the end result will benefit the community.
