Parsons Road closure between Hastings Street and Airport Access Road
Parsons Road will be closed to all traffic February 26, 2018
TRAVERSE CITY- Motorists and pedestrians should be aware that the Department of Public Services will be closing Parsons Road between Hastings Street and Airport Access Road for tree removal. This closure will take place on Monday, February 26, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This will cause disruptions to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. This closure is weather dependent.
The work will require the street to be closed to all traffic while the work is being done. Access will be maintained to all residences and businesses at all times. There will be a signed detour route in place during the closure.
Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion, delay and inconvenience for your travels. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work areas.

The City of Traverse City is located in Grand Traverse County, Michigan. Traverse City was incorporated in 1891 as a Village and in 1895 as a City. It encompasses 8.09 square miles and has a population of 14,674 (2010 Census).
Traverse City residents are invited to serve on one of the city's citizen boards and committees. Through this service, civic-minded citizens can become involved in their local government. The city, in turn, benefits from the knowledge, experience and expertise of our citizens.
The Arts Commission is responsible for promoting arts in the community, and advising the City Commission on matters pertaining to the arts programs within the city. The Traverse City Arts Commission meets monthly on the third Wednesday.
The primary purpose of the Election Commission is to appoint Election Inspector in advance of each election. Members of this board have minimal commitment, meeting approximately two times a year.
Traverse City Light and Power Board (Applications due March 2nd)
Typically meets once a month, this board has exclusive jurisdiction, control and management of the Light and Power Department and all its operations and facilities. Unless specifically allocated to the City Commission or to a City official, the Board has all of the powers and duties possessed by the City to construct, acquire, expand and operate the Light and Power system.
Human Rights Commission
The Human Rights Commission fosters mutual understanding and respect among all groups and discourages discriminatory practices, formulate and carry out programs of community education and information, receive and act as conciliator regarding occurrences of acts of prejudice or discrimination, and secure the cooperation of various community groups. This board meets on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 pm.
Historic Districts Commission
The goals of the Historic Districts Commission are to safeguard the heritage of our City; to preserve cultural, political or architectural history; to preserve historic landmarks; to foster civic beauty and more. The Commission meets the last Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm.
Board of Zoning Appeals
The purpose of the Board of Zoning Appeals is to hear and decide on appeals brought to the Building Official, Zoning Administrator, etc. and to interpret provisions of the Zoning Code. The Board’s regular meeting date is the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm.
Board of Tax Review
The purpose of the Board of Tax Review is to examine, review, and correct the assessment roll. Members of this board have minimal commitment, only meeting periodically throughout the year. This person should be a City resident.
City of Traverse City and Charter Township of Garfield Recreational Authority Board
The Authority is incorporated for the purpose of the acquisition, construction, operation, maintenance or improvement of public recreation centers, public parks, and public conference centers as may be acquired by the Authority or as may be transferred to it by a participating municipality. This board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for all boards and commissions and are kept on file for a period of one year; applicants must not be in default to the City.
City of Traverse City 2017 winter property taxes are due by Wednesday, February 14, 2018.
Taxes not paid by February 14, 2018 will be charged a 3% penalty. Beginning March 1, 2018, taxes will be payable to the Grand Traverse County Treasurer with a 5% penalty due. 1% penalty per month will be added until forfeited.
As a reminder, the Governmental Center is open for business Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, but please feel free to utilize the red drop box by the mailboxes in the Governmental Center's Parking lot to drop off your tax payment after hours.
