200 Block Lake Avenue Closure 

Lake Ave. will be closed September 4, 2018 thru November 15, 2018

TRAVERSE CITY- Motorists and pedestrians should be aware that Crawford Construction will be closing the 200 Block and a portion of the 100 Block of Lake Ave. between E. Eighth St. and S. Union St. for reconstruction of the street including underground utilities.  This closure will take place on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 7:00 a.m. and will re-open on November 15 at 5:00 p.m.  This will cause disruptions to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.  The closure is weather dependent. 

Lake Ave. will be closed to all traffic between S. Cass St. and E. Eighth St. Access to businesses and homes in the closed area will be maintained from the side streets and alleys. The crossing at E. Eighth St. will be maintained as much as possible. Truck traffic serving businesses in the closed area will be allowed to use other local streets for deliveries to the area as well as approved coordination with the Contractor. A detour will be provided to bypass this section of Lake Ave. Sidewalks will be closed but every effort will be made to have them accessible during the project for businesses. These restrictions are for the safety of the workers and the public, as well as to expedite the construction to reduce the time needed to complete the work.

Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion, delay and inconvenience for your travels. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work areas. Alley North of Eighth St Closure

9/04/2018 TO 10/31/2018

TRAVERSE CITY- The City of Traverse City and Elmer’s Crane and Dozer, Inc. will be reconstructing the alley north of Eighth St between Boardman Ave and Railroad Ave. The project will start Tuesday, September 4, 2018 and is expected to be substantially completed by October 31, 2018.

Work includes removing the existing pavement and installing new pavement, speed humps, curbs and gutters, and storm sewer main systems including drywells. The alley north of Eighth St between Boardman Ave and Railroad Ave will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project. Commercial vehicles and deliveries are encouraged to use side streets to make their deliveries.

Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion, delay, and promote worker safety. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work area.

400 Block Wellington St. Closure

 

Wellington St. will be closured August 29, 2018 thru August 31 , 2018

TRAVERSE CITY- Motorists and pedestrians should be aware that Miller Pipeline will be closing the 400 Block of Wellington St. between Eighth St. and Webster St. for gas main replacement.  This closure will take place on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. and will re-open on August 31 at 5:00 p.m.  This will cause disruptions to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.  The closure is weather dependent. 

Access will be maintained to all businesses and residences at all times. 

Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion, delay and inconvenience for your travels. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work areas.

West Lane St. Closure

8/27 – 9/14/2018

TRAVERSE CITY- The City of Traverse City and Elmer’s Crane and Dozer, Inc. will be resurfacing West Lane St. between Boughey St. and W. Nineteenth St. The work is expected to start the week of August 27th and be substantially complete by Friday, September 14, 2018. Schedule is subject to change due to weather.

The contractor will remove the existing asphalt surface, grade and compact the gravel base and resurface with hot mix asphalt.

W. Lane St. between Boughey St. and W. Nineteenth St. will be closed to through traffic.

Delays can be expected. Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work areas.

TRAVERSE CITY- The City of Traverse City and Elmer’s Crane and Dozer, Inc. will be reconstructing Parking Lot P at 124, 128 & 130 W. State St. The work is expected to start the week of August 27th and be substantially complete by Friday, October 12, 2018. Schedule is subject to change due to weather.

TRAVERSE CITY- The City of Traverse City Street Department will be repairing a manhole structure at the intersection of Boon and Woodmere Streets.  Boon Street will be closed between Barlow and Woodmere from 8:00 am August 22 until 3:00 pm on August 23.  Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion, delay and promote worker safety. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work area.

City Clerk Benjamin Marentette is accepting applications on behalf of the City Commission for those interested in being appointed to the City Commission to fill a vacancy left by former Mayor Pro Tem Brian Haas. The individual appointed will serve until the Commission’s Organizational Meeting of Monday, November 11, 2019.

To be considered, you must be a registered voter of the City of Traverse City for thirty consecutive days and not be past due on amounts owed to the City.

TRAVERSE CITY- Motorists and pedestrians should be aware that Molon Excavating Inc. will be working in the intersection of Sixth St. and Beaumont Pl.  This work will take place on Wednesday, August 22nd 2018 at 8:00 a.m. and will be ongoing through the end of the day August 24th 2018.  This will cause disruptions to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.  The work is weather dependent.

Access will be maintained to Munson, all businesses & residences at all times.  There will be flaggers directing traffic while the work is going on. 

Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion, delay and inconvenience for your travels. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work areas.

Subject: Available Positions on Various City Boards!

Members of the Traverse City community are invited to serve on one of the City's citizen boards and committees. Through this service, civic-minded citizens can become involved in their local government. The City, in turn, benefits from the knowledge, experience and expertise of those in our community.

Art Selection Panel
The Art Selection Panel, a seven-member panel appointed by the Traverse City Arts Commission, holds meetings as needed to review proposals and make recommendations to the Traverse City Arts Commission. Members of the Art Selection Panel are not required to be City residents, but should have knowledge of or interest in the visual arts, and will be appointed to terms of three years.

Brown Bridge Advisory Committee
The purpose of this advisory committee is to make recommendations to restore, preserve and protect the integrity of the Brown Bridge property under the direction of the City Manager. This Committee meets quarterly on the third Thursday of that month, and appointments are for terms of three years.

City Planning Commission
The purpose of the Planning Commission is to prepare and adopt a master plan for the City, and to review development proposals, both private and public, regarding their consistency with City plans. This Commission meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm.

Housing Commission
The authority of this commission is to purchase, maintain, operate, improve, and/or repair housing facilities; eliminate detrimental housing conditions; issue notes and revenue bonds; and regulate the rentals of such public or subsidized housing. This board meets the fourth Friday of each month at 8:00 am.

Division St. rated poor and very poor. The project will start August 2nd and is expected to be completed on Friday August 10, 2018. 6th and 7th will remain open to traffic with lane shifts around the work zones. Sidewalks will be closed at the work zones. Delays can be expected. Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion.
