On Sunday, August 25, 2019, the City of Traverse City and greater region hosed the first Traverse City Ironman 70.3. Traverse City is thrilled to have played host to an event that inspires and moves people to embrace a life of wellness and to live their best life.
The City thanks the many agencies that worked to make this event happen, which took tremendous organization, planning and resources from a host of agencies and organizations. The City of Traverse City also thanks Traverse City Tourism for serving as an impetus to bring this event to Traverse City.

The inaugural Ironman 70.3 Traverse City event will be here this weekend and the community is invited to join in on the fun! Be a spectator as athletes swim 1.2 miles in Grand Traverse Bay, bike 56 miles through Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Benzie Counties, and run 13.1 miles through Traverse City!
Setup has begun and community festivities begin Friday, August 23rd in the Open Space when the Ironman Village opens. Stop by the Ironman Village to visit local vendors and to sign your children up for the Ironkids Fun Run taking place on Saturday, August 24th. Then on Sunday, August 25th get your cow bells and big smiles out to cheer on the athletes as they compete to qualify for the World Championship in New Zealand!

Free Opportunity for Traverse City Residents to Learn Tips to Make Young Trees Thrive
Free Educational Presentation Hosted by ReLeaf Michigan, Tuesday, August 27, 10AM-2PM
All are invited to a free educational workshop led by the renowned “tree doctor,” retired MSU plant pathologist Dr. David Roberts, and Bill Lawrence, ReLeaf Michigan president and retired City of Ann Arbor forester.
The event is organized by ReLeaf Michigan, the only statewide tree planting and education non-profit organization. Since 1988, ReLeaf Michigan has worked with more than 400 communities to plant over 30,000 trees and help educate residents on the value and importance of trees to their daily lives.
The presentation will begin inside at the Grand Traverse Government Center and then move outside for a hands-on demonstration on how to practice pruning cuts. Topics will include how to prune young trees for structure and form, types of pruning, pruning tools, when to prune, and more. Watering, mulch, staking, fertilization and insects/diseases will also be discussed. Questions are welcome and encouraged!
