Prescription & Over the Counter Drug Drop Off
The Traverse City Police Department and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office have recently installed a drop box for prescription and over-the-counter drug disposal at the Law Enforcement Center at 851 Woodmere Avenue in Traverse City. The drop box is for outdated, unused or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
The box is located in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center on Woodmere Avenue and is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Persons wishing to dispose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs may simply drop those items in the drop box located in the lobby. The medications do not have to be removed from their packaging prior to disposal in the drop box. The only medications that are not accepted are: needles/lancets/pen needles, aerosol cans, IV bags, hydrogen peroxide, thermometers, bloody or infectious waste.
The goal of removing prescription and over-the-counter drugs is to prevent the intentional misuse of these unwanted medications to reduce the problem with prescription drug abuse.
