School Resource Officers

In 1981 the Traverse City Police Department in conjunction with the Traverse City Area Public Schools implemented a School Resource Officer program (SRO).    This program assigned a Traverse City police officer to Central High School located in the City of Traverse City.   The Department's first ever SRO was Sergeant McEvoy.

Currently we have two Patrol Officers assigned as SRO's.   Officer Joe Soffredine and Officer Jill Markoski.   Officer Soffredine maintains an office in Central High School's "F" building and may be reached via telephone at (231) 933-3599.  Officer Markoski maintains an office at TBA Career-Tech Center and may be reached at 231-922-6422.

Officer Soffredine investigates crimes committed within Central High School and/or on Central High School property, and crimes committed on the campus of Northwestern Michigan College located adjacent to Central High School.  in addition, he attends all at home sporting events.

Officer Markoski investigates crimes committed within the Career Tech-Center/and or on the Career-Tech Center property  as well as all crimes committed at the other TBAISD campuses.

Both SRO's conduct presentations within their schools and instruct students in the classroom on special topics.

The SRO's constantly interact with their respective school's administration, faculty members, and students to establish and maintain a safe learning environment for all.
