Streets Department

The Streets Department is responsible for maintaining

  • over 100 miles of local and major streets
  • 12 miles of State Highway
  • 20 miles of alleys
  • over 75 miles of public sidewalks

within the City limits. Seasonal programs include leaf and brush pickup, snow removal and sidewalk replacement and repair. The Streets Department is responsible for providing fencing and barricades for festivals and other events, and road closures for City Police and Fire Departments.

The department is also responsible for maintaining and repairing the stormwater drainage system, including annual cleaning of 1250 catch basin structures as part of a rotating maintenance program. The system contains over 2300 catch basin structures and 1200 storm system manholes and related structures.

We also repair, replace and maintain over 4,500 street, traffic and parking signs.
