Michigan State High School Nordic Ski State Championships at Hickory Hills
The City of Traverse City and Vasa Ski Club will be hosting the 2023 Michigan State High School Nordic Ski State Championships at Hickory Hills on March 3 and 4, 2023. Residents and visitors should be aware that Hickory Hills Lodge and slopes will delay opening on Friday March 3rd until 5 pm. The Lodge and slopes will delay opening until 2 pm on Saturday, March 4th. Closing times remain the same. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as the City hosts youth Nordic skiers from the state of Michigan. Delayed Opening
- March 3: 5 pm
- March 4: 2 pm
- Fast Tammy closed all day March 3 and will reopen at 2 pm on March 4
- Closing times remain the same
During the event times, Nordic and Alpine skiing will be closed to the public. In addition, the Nordic trails at Hickory Hills and alpine slope, Fast Tammy (bunny hill) will not be available for use all day on Friday, March 3rd, and until 2pm on Saturday, March 4th. Hickory Meadows will be an available alternative for Nordic skiers during the event.
Hickory users please be advised the race course set up will begin Thursday evening at 9 pm. Signage and fencing will be placed throughout the race course. We ask that users be mindful and respectful of fencing and netting.
Parking
Parking at Hickory Hills is limited and available on a first come first served basis. Parking is not permitted on the south side of Randolph Street. Offsite parking is available in Lot Q at the Munson Hospital, and we encourage carpooling from Lot Q to reduce parking demands onsite where possible.

- 11:00 am - Bib’s pickup open
- 1:00 pm - 5km skate race start
- 3:00 pm - Relay course marked
- 4:00 pm - Relay skate race start
- 5:00 pm - Hickory open for normal business hours
Saturday, March 4th, 2023
- 7:00 am - Course open for testing and preview
- 8:00 am - Bib pickup open
- 9:00 am - 5km classic
- 10:30 am - 3km Middle school Classic race
- 12:00 pm - Classic sprint qualifier w/ heats to follow
- 2:00 pm – Hickory open for normal business hours
