Traverse City Police Department PSW and RESILIENCE Program Policies & Confidentiality

Confidentiality

  • The Police Support Services Workers (PSWs) of the Traverse City Police Department have a confidentiality agreement from law enforcement officers in order to protect program participants. 
  • The PSW maintains the confidentiality of information shared by individuals and partners of the RESILIENCE Program from police unless there is threat of harm to any individual, as defined in 24 CFR § 5.2003. 
  • A PSW will indicate to law enforcement whether or not an individual has received follow up, been connected to treatment, and/or is a RESILIENCE Program Participant. Specific information regarding treatment within the RESILIENCE Program will not be shared without consent. 
  • Information obtained by the PSWs includes an individual's location, demographics, health, legal, substance use, mental health, housing, and community agency involvement. This information will not be used to aid law enforcement in finding a suspect of a crime unless there is imminent risk of harm to any person. 
  • The PSWs obtain and share information for the purpose of care coordination and maintain confidential information in compliance with the NASW Code of Ethics, HIPAA, and 42 CFR § 2.
