City Recruiting for New Treasurer/Finance Director

The City of Traverse City will soon begin actively recruiting candidates to serve as the next City Treasurer/Finance Director. James Henderson, City Treasurer/Finance Director, has submitted his
resignation to pursue another professional opportunity. Henderson joined the City in October 2015 as Deputy City Treasurer/Assistant Finance Director and was appointed as City Treasurer/Finance Director in March 2022. His last day at the City will be December 29, 2022. Upon Henderson’s departure, the City will appoint an Interim City Treasurer/Finance Director.

“James has been a valued and respected member of the City's management team since 2015. He is always ready to lend his substantial expertise in financial management and fiscal responsibility to the benefit of the City. I'd like to thank James for the time he gave to the City, and wish him well in his next venture.,” says Penny Hill, Assistant City Manager.

The City Treasurer/Finance Director is responsible for mainting all financial records and monitors all accounts of the City, developing and administering the City’s budget, and oversees the collection of taxes, utility billing and collections, and other payments to the City. In addition, the position is responsible for overseeing office personnel and operations.

“While I am excited for the next phase of my career, I am sad to be leaving the City of Traverse City. It has truly been a privilege serving the people of Traverse City,” stated James Henderson, City Treasurer/Finance Director.

The City recently hired Rehmann as a Recruitment Consultant to assist with a number of positions needing to be filled. Due to the upcoming vacancy for the City Treasurer/Finance Director position, the City will work with Rehmann on recruiting services.
