TCPD Change in Command Staff
Chief of Police, Jeffrey O’Brien, is pleased to announce the following changes within the Traverse City Police Department effective immediately.
Promoted to the rank of Captain is Matthew Richmond who has been with the Traverse City Police Department since 2004. Captain Richmond has served the Department as a Patrol Services Officer, Investigative Services Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, and most recently, Patrol Services Lieutenant. He has assumed Command of the Patrol Services Division and will work with Captain Gillis to fully acclimate to his new assignment. Captain Richmond is quoted as saying, “I look forward to using the knowledge and experience I’ve gained throughout my law enforcement career to foster community relationships that will benefit both our Department and the community moving forward.”
With the promotion of Captain Richmond, Captain Keith Gillis has been re-assigned to the Investigative Services Division and has assumed Command of the Detective Bureau. Captain Gillis states, “I am looking forward to serving the Department in leading the Investigative Services Division and working directly with the Detectives as a liaison to the community in which we serve. I would also like to be one of the first to congratulate Captain Richmond on his promotion and I look forward to supporting him in his transition.”
Also promoted during this process is Steve Sivek, to the rank of Lieutenant, of the Patrol Services Division. Lieutenant Sivek has been with the department since 2001 and has served the department as a Patrol Officer and most recently, Patrol Sergeant. He has also held additional responsibilities for the Department including Field Training Supervisor, Firearms instructor, and Reserve Program Coordinator. Lieutenant Sivek states, “I am looking forward to working with Chief O’Brien and the Command Staff in fostering the lines of communication throughout the department.”
Chief O’Brien will make a formal introduction to the media during the daily press briefing on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the Law Enforcement Center. Further inquiries may be directed to the Office of the Chief.
