US 31 (Division Street) Watermain Replacement

The US 31 watermain replacement was identified as a need prior to 2018. The project includes replacing more than 2400 feet of 12” watermain along Division Street from 14th Street to the City Limits south of Fitzhugh Drive. This segment of watermain has had multiple breaks in the past due to corrosive soils. The replacement pipe will be a long-term solution to address the reliability of the watermain distribution system.  A mitigation strategy related to wetlands has been identified and MDOT right of way has been secured to move forward with the project in 2022.

The project's final design has been completed and the project for the EGLE Water System Construction Permit Application has been submitted. The targeted compilation date is late summer/early fall 2022.

Funding

$170,000 from the Water & Sewer Fund has been allocated for preliminary engineering work.
