I Voted Sticker Designs - Traverse City Style
In 2020, the City launched a multi-year sticker design contest to show off our voter pride, Traverse City style! The creative challenges included "I Voted" in 2020, "Future Voter" in 2021, and "First Time Voter" in 2022. “I Voted” stickers are proudly worn by voters to both declare they exercised their voting rights and to encourage others to do the same!
2020 "I Voted" Sticker Design Contest
In 2020, an "I Voted" Sticker Design Contest was hosted with one winner receiving a $500 prize. The Contest was open to residents, including 9th-12th grade students, in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Antrim, or Kalkaska counties. The City received 80 design submissions and narrowed the field down to three finalists. A public vote was then hosted with nearly 1,200 voters in one week! We really do have voter pride! The winning design, by Roger Amundsen, pays homage to our unique landscape in northern Michigan with a vintage flare.
2021 "Future Voter" Sticker Design Contest
When it comes to voter pride, we like to start them young! In 2021, a "Future Voter" Sticker Design Contest was hosted with three winners receiving a $100 prize. The Contest was open to K-12 students in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Antrim, or Kalkaska counties. Kids, they are the future! The City received 40 design submissions and narrowed the field down to six finalists. In an effort to have unique stickers from a diverse age group, the six finalists included three digital designs and three hand drawn designs. A public vote was then hosted with nearly 500 voters in one week! The winning designs were made by an elementary school student, a middle school aged student, and a high school student.
2022 "First Time Voter" Sticker Design Contest
When a round of applause erupted at one of our precincts for a first time voter (we aren't crying, you are), we were inspired to launch yet another contest, "First Time Voter." Three winners received a $100 prize. Voting is a right of passage, our civic duty, and we could not resist seeking unique designs for equally excited first time voters. And there, another contest was born! The Contest was open to residents, including 9th-12th grade students, in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Antrim, or Kalkaska counties. Since they are the future first time voter after all, the contest was targeting student participation. The City received 30 submissions and narrowed the field down to six finalists. A public vote was then hosted with nearly 450 voters in one week! The winning designs were made up by a diverse range of individuals, students, and adults.
Election Branding
Utilizing the unique voting sticker designs has become the City of Traverse City brand for promotional and educational materials as it relates to elections. We really can't imagine a more fun design to use for all things elections! So motivating that, excuse us while we run to the polls now!
