Traverse City Fire Department Launches Knox Box Update Campaign

The Traverse City Fire Department has launched a community campaign to encourage commercial property and business owners to update their Knox Boxes. A Knox Box is a small, wall-mounted safe that holds building keys and contact information for fire departments and emergency medical services to retrieve in emergency situations. Traverse City Fire Department holds the master keys to access Knox Boxes within the jurisdiction. This allows firefighters to quickly enter a building without having to force entry or delay entry waiting for a key holder.

“TCFD has launched this critical initiative during Fire Prevention Week to enhance fire safety and response efficiency within the City of Traverse City. We invite all commercial property and business owners to partner with us in updating their Knox Boxes to ensure the highest level of protection for both lives and property while avoiding forced entry during emergencies,” stated Traverse City Fire Chief Jim Tuller.

Key Benefits of Updating Your Knox Box

Faster Response Times: Up-to-date Knox Boxes with accurate information and keys expedite our response to emergencies, potentially saving lives and reducing property damage.

Enhanced Security Without Forced Entry: Maintaining current keys and contact information in your Knox Box ensures secure access to your property, eliminating the need for costly forced entry methods during emergencies.

Community Safety: Your cooperation contributes to the overall safety of the Traverse City community, creating a safer environment for everyone.
