Project Updates

04-20-2021: Intersection Closure

06-18-2021: Parsons is open to vehicular traffic. Please be cautious as final improvements are completed the week of 6/21/2021.

This project has been completed!

On April 26, 2021, construction will begin on the City's first roundabout at the intersection of Parsons and Airport Access Roads. The project will include the removal of the existing traffic light signals and pavement, roundabout construction, and lighting improvements.

During construction, the intersection will be closed to through traffic. Access to the TART trail crossing of Airport Access Road will be maintained as much as possible, with a slight detour to the south. The expected construction dates are April 26th through June 25th, 2021, and are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Delays can be expected. Please use alternate routes avoiding this area to reduce congestion. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work areas.

This construction will generate dust, noise and cause inconvenience. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. Please contact Jessica Carpenter via email at jcarpenter@traversecitymi.gov or phone at (231) 922-6894 with any questions.

What is a roundabout?

Roundabouts promote a continuous flow of traffic. Unlike intersections with traffic signals, drivers don't have to wait for a green light at a roundabout to get through the intersection. Traffic is not required to stop – only yield – so the intersection can handle more traffic in the same amount of time.

Funding

The $721,200 project was funded through MDOT funding in the amount of $577,294.83. The remainder was funded through the City's Public Improvements Fund.
