Rec Authority Current Projects
Historic Barns Park Road Project, Fall of 2020
In cooperation with the City of Traverse City, the Rec Authority and Elmer’s Crane and Dozer have begun the Historic Barns Park Road Reconstruction Project! After a decade of planning and fundraising, the project will improve universal accessibility to the park and introduce some much-needed stormwater controls to help protect the site and its buildings.
Work for the fall season is expected to continue through the week of November 15. The project limits are within the property boundaries of Historic Barns Park on the southern end of the Grand Traverse Commons. The work includes new construction and some relocation of the driveways and pedestrian pathways inside the park, as well as the introduction of those improved stormwater controls.
Phases of the project will require intermittent closures of the park’s main entrance off Silver Drive as well as sections of the paved non-motorized trail that runs through the park. Visitors are encouraged to access the park via Red Drive and to heed signage and barricades inside the park. The paved shoulders of Silver Lake Road between the signalized intersections at Silver Drive and Copper Ridge Drive can be used as an alternative trail route.
This construction will generate dust and noise and cause inconvenience. If you are not visiting the park, please use alternate routes that avoid this area to reduce congestion, avoid delays and promote worker safety. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place in and around the work area.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this long-awaited project!
